We Are All Touched - American International College Students Visually Explore the Opioid Crisis

This year, the AIC campus is immersed in an interdisciplinary investigation of the Opioid Crisis.  Various courses focus on the topic and faculty panels have presented information.

Students in Communication classes and Visual & Digital Arts classes created artworks related to aspects of the Opioid Crisis.

We will have two opening celebrations for this We Are All Touched art show.  Both receptions are on November 21st, 2019.  One is from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm.  The other from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
Location: West Wing Gallery of the Karen Sprague Cultural Arts Center, November, 1000 State Street, Springfield, MA

Other artworks will be on display as well.  Students read Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's speech "I Have a Dream" and then created art based on the imagery Dr. King painted with his powerful words.

Refreshments will be served. You are invited to join us.

Nursing major Leah Przybyszewski created the following project in her History of Photojournalism course:  Help me, along with many others, stop the opioid crisis through education. Sometimes statistics do not speak to people so here is a project I created that marries statistics and photographs of the struggle experienced by opioid addicts. A source that inspired me a lot and perfectly depicts what I think will stop the opioid crisis is James Natchwey's "The Opioid Diaries." Visit my project "My Take on the Opioid Epidemic" to understand and learn about my view on the opioid crisis.

Nursing major Ashelly Megit's blog post for her History of Photojournalism course makes connections between the power of photojournalistic images and raising awareness about the Opioid Crisis.  Her post becomes personal as well, "Throughout my life, I have seen this crisis first-hand. Someone I know had a surgery and were prescribed an opioid for pain and acquired a dependency and eventually an addiction for the drug."  Full story here: https://ashellymegit.blogspot.com/2019/10/opioid-crisis-project.html
